Jeeps in Europe have traditionally used VM diesel engines; from the 1990s, when they used 2.5 liter four-cylinder diesels, to the 2000s, when they used 2.5 and 2.8 liter versions of the same engine, Jeep stayed mainly with VM R-series fours. Karl3 reported that the next-generation KL Cherokee, however, will use a Fiat Powertrain engine, rather than a VM (Fiat also owns VM).  Jeep could use the latest 2.0 liter JTDM, which in the 2014 Alfa Romeo Giulietta produces 150 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, while meeting Euro 6 emissions. In the Fiat Freemont, the 2.0 liter engine produces 140 or 170 horsepower, with 229 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0 MultiJet, launched in 2008, has garnered a strong reputation both in Europe and in India, where it has proven to be very popular albeit not under the hoods of Fiats A less likely possibility is the 3.0 liter Fiat 3.0..
