Chrysler vehicle output declined 0.9% in August due to a 19.6% drop in car production with the largest cuts coming in the compact Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger. Production of the Fiat 500 was also trimmed fairly heavily mostly because sales volumes are down with the introduction of the new 500L. Chrysler 300 builds were also cut nearly 30% in reaction to ongoing soft sales of the big sedan. On the other hand, Dodge Charger assembly was up 21.2% and Challenger builds increased 1.4%. The Belvidere Assembly Plant was bustling last month. Orders for the Jeep Compass and Patriot were both up by more than 100%. Production of the Dodge Dart also kept the plant busy. Dart production was down 9.9% from last August but it was up 27.8% compared to July 2013. This matches up well with the August uptick in Dart sales. The boost in Dart sales..
