Today, Tesla Motors issued a press release saying saying the company had wired 4451.8 million to the government and had paid off the entire loan it had received from the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing loan program. In the announcement, the company said, " Tesla will be the only American car company to have fully repaid the government." Gualberto Ranieri, Chrysler group's Senior Vice President of Communications , was quick to put the record straight: Posting on the Chrysler blog, Ranieri said, "The information is unmistakably incorrect. It’s pretty well-known that almost exactly two years ago – May 24, 2011 – Chrysler Group LLC repaid (in full and with interest) U.S. and Canadian government loans more than six years ahead of schedule.
