It's down to the final three in the competition for Motor Trend's "Truck of the Year" honors and the Ram 1500 is in the running. Actually, two Rams are in the running: a Pentastar V6-equipped 1500 SLT and a 5.7-liter HEMI-powered Sport. The folks at MT are impressed with the Ram's engines, even though they didn't get the new eight-speed, and the new air suspension has garnered a favorable response. On the downside, the steering-wheel-mounted shift buttons prompted an opinion that more conventional paddle shifters would get the job done better, even when the driver is wearing gloves, and the Uconnect system was occasionally slow to respond and there was an occasional glitch in the navigation system.
