The union claims that the Ford Oakville plant has been in this uncertain situation before. However, with GM finally announcing a few months ago that it will be leaving Canada with closure of its Oshawa plant, is Ford about to follow suit?

Is the threat to Ford's Canada assembly plant real?

Very real possibility as Edge and Nautilus may be replaced by electric powered crossovers or moved to Louisville plant if they are moved to C2 platform. Some speculation at another forum that Ranger production could be moved to Oakville if Bronco is smash success, as Ford doesn't want to leave Canada.

GM still has Canadian presence with vehicle assembly with their CAMI plant and powertrain with St. Catherines Propulsion.

Like GM, when the Canadian & Ontario governments gave them $$ they should have got guarantees for so many years of production.

Ford had no problem bulldozing STAP just after they killed off the Panthers.

Kind of an odd business decision considering the advantage of a lower Canadian dollar and lower overall labour costs due to not having to pay for a primary employee health care plan.
