With all the tire smoke at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA SpringNationals, it's amazing the fans at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas could see the track. Funny Car: Blake Alexander was the first Dodge driver to fall, up in smoke early and falling to John Force. Matt Hagan was another first-round casualty, not only toasting the tires, but disqualified after clipping the timing reflector at the finish line. In the quarterfinals, 2012 Funny Car Champion Jack Beckman was eliminated by Alexis DeJoria when she did a better job of pedaling. Ron Capps had a clean pass, shutting down Johnny Gray who had traction trouble and a flash of flame that ended his raceday. Capps had his own traction problems in the semifinals, losing to Tim Wilkerson who fell to Cruz Pedregon in the final matchup. The results dropped Matt Hagan to No. 2 in the driver rankings.
