SALEM, Ind. (April 26, 2013)
It's a family affair this weekend at Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery for ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver Brett Hudson.
The Owensboro, Kentucky native returns to Salem for Sunday's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 presented by Crosley Radio, partnering with Ken Schrader Racing for his 12th trip to the historic high-banked, half-mile southern Indiana oval.
Schrader's ARCA crew chief Donnie Richeson will serve as crew chief on Hudson's
# 52 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge.
"I always look forward to Salem, but this weekend is a little different and I'm a little more anxious to get things going," said Hudson, who competed in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway in February. "We're always very competitive at Salem, but to have my uncle making the calls is going to make it a memorable moment in my racing career."
Even though Hudson and Richeson paired for an ARCA race together back in 2006 at Nashville Superspeedway, this time it's much different.
"He won last fall with Tom (Hessert at Salem) and I have had a lot of success at Salem, so it's a perfect-fit and really, a perfect situation. I'm hoping that with his guidance and direction, we can be in contention for a win on Sunday. It would be a big day for the family."
Despite his experience on the challenging short track, his recent finishes there have been disappointing.
"Racers have places they love to go and Salem is one of those places for me," added Hudson, who has five top-10 finishes in 11 previous starts.
"I've won some big races at the track, but nothing in ARCA, yet. We're going to keep trying though, because I know it can happen. We tested last week and I thought it went really good and that helps my confidence.
"You need to have tires for the last run and the place is huge on momentum. You need to have a good run out of (turn) two to carry down the backstretch into three and four. It's a very entertaining race."
As they've done for the past two seasons, the Brett Hudson Motorsports team will carry ‘Hope for Harlie'decals for Harlie Bryant, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and continues to fight her battle. The team will continue to spread her message of hope.
