Can you get a title for a classic car that has none?

Your state DMV online should be able to get you going in the right direction, too. It does vary, anything from getting ahold of the last known owner to see if they claim it, verifying it is not a stolen vehicle (it's how cars missing for 25 years get found sometimes), to a physical check of numbers and VIN to ensure it is not altered to get retitled. Needless to say, I agree with geraldg.

Once you get the VIN number off the vehicle and a license plate number, if available, then they will access records and last known owner and verify the vehicle isn't stolen. If the previous owner is alive or available, you contact the person, you both go down to the DMV and do some paperwork for lost title and since the vehicle is in the person's name, he may or may not then keep the vehicle now that he has a title, or sell it to you, so a chance is taken. On the other side of this, if the owner does not exist anymore and the vehicle checks out not stolen, then they do a VIN inspection and check that the car is actually what the VIN says and you get a new title for the vehicle in your name for a nominal fee. Start in Michigan to get a title, then you know it will be easy in Ohio because everything had been verified in Michigan. Worth it can only be judged by what lengths you are willing to go to in order to own the car.
