While Ram plays third fiddle in the United States behind Chevrolet and Ford, Ram had Canada’s best selling (at retail) heavy duty pickup in 2012, with a 36% retail market share. The Cummins-powered Ram Heavy Duty picked up 43% of the retail diesel pickup market.

Chrysler Canada claims that Ram is Canada’s longest-lasting pickup line, since 79% of all Ram trucks sold over the last 25 years are still on the road. 87% of all Cummins-powered Rams sold since 1993 still on the road.

For 2014, as Ram announced in the US, the 410-horsepower 6.4 liter engine will be available in Ram Heavy Duty vehicles. The largest-displacement V8 in the segment, it generates the most horsepower and torque of any gasoline engine in its class; cylinder deactivation helps maintain economy.

The 2014 Ram 2500 will come with a class-exclusive rear coil suspension with far better ride and handling (the Ram 3500 continues with leaf springs), and will also get the 2013 Ram 3500’s three-link front suspension; a rear air suspension is optional on Ram 2500, replacing the coil springs. Ram 3500 also has an optional air suspension, which supplements the springs. The frame was upgraded and strengthened, and a gooseneck hitch (“fifth wheel”) capability was added to Ram 2500. Dual alternator systems now go up to 440 amps.

Ram 2500 and 3500 both come with a standard 5.7 liter Hemi V8 engine; the 6.4 Hemi is optional. Both come with a six speed automatic. Cummins buyers have a choice of six-speed manual, six-speed Dodge automatic, and six-speed Aisin automatic. (The manual transmission is not available on Longhorn or Laramie Limited.)

On chassis cabs, the 6.4 Hemi is standard, with the 5.7 Hemi optional on Ram 3500; both are paired with the six speed Dodge automatic, with 6.4 + Aisin automatic optional. Cummins engines can be purchased with a manual or Aisin automatic transmission. Chassis cabs continue to be available in 60” to 120” cab-to-axle lengths. Crew cabs and Ram 3500 are only available in 60” and 84” lengths (crew-cab Ram 3500 is only available in 60”).

2014 Ram pricing in Canada starts at C$39,495 for rear drive Ram 2500 ST regular cab; the crew cab adds $4,000 and the Mega Cab adds $8,000. Going to 4x4 adds $3,000 in each case. Power Wagon will start at C$53,995.

2014 Ram 3500 starts at $41,495 for ST Regular Cab, with the same increments for Crew Cab and 4x4. Mega Cab starts with the SLT level, at C$57,495.

The Chassis Cab lines start at $38,495 (with the same $3,000 for 4x4 at that level). Ram 4500 starts at C$41,495 ($5,000 more for 4x4).
