Hi all, new member here...
I have two Grand Caravans, a 1990 LE, and a 1996 SE (recently acquired). Love them for long road trips. I will have a few questions over the next few months related to these two cars, starting with this one about wheels.
The wheels on the 1990 car are much nicer than the base level wheels on the 1996, and the newer car is my daily driver, so I'd like to just swap wheels between the two cars. BUT...are these wheels perfectly interchangeable? They are both 15 inch, but what about the width, and the "offset" (if that's the right term-if it's not, what is the right word)? I've not yet tried them for fit, but I'm guessing the hole pattern would be the same. It does seem like the 1996 has a bit more clearance up front around the struts...that will be a bonus if I ever need to chain up in snow.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming the wheels on the 1990 are factory optional since this is the top of the line LE (w/leather seats and factory sunroof). They are painted silver, the caps don't cover the entire wheel, and are the kind that bolt on from the back and remain attached when the wheel is dismounted.
Wheels on the 1996 car are almost certainly the base steel wheels, black or very dark, with big ugly wheel covers made of plastic.
Does anyone know if I can I safely swap the wheels? Are they exactly the same, or do they have a slight difference that won't matter? Or is there an offset issue that might be a problem?
Thanks!
