The Edelbrock 1406 is an AFB. A better choice might be their AVS-2. The AVS has the adjustable secondary air door.
The problem I have with either carb or the 4160 Holley is they're generally delivered with a pig-rich tuning. There's no reason for that. The Carter design is much easier to tune, so that's another consideration.
You could also take a look at the Street Demon with the phenolic bowl. Similar - kind of - to the Thermoquad. Adjustable secondary air door, Siamese secondary bored, but square-bore layout, whereas TQ is a spreadbore.
None of these new carbs are cheap. But a quality reman these days ain't cheap, either.
