Chrysler Fault Code 33: A/C relay open or shorted

by Bob O'Neill and Bob Lincoln

Code 33 only applies to cars with factory air conditioning; it is set when the A/C cut-out relay circuit is open or shorted. The power limited light will not be lit and the system will not enter limp mode.

Possible reasons and fixes for fault code 33

Poor wiring or connection - Read the page 'How to troubleshoot drivability issues'. Check the wiring and connections from the logic module to and the relay. Clean and re-grease the connectors with dielectric grease.

Defective relay - With the relay disconnect, apply 12vdc across the relay coil terminals and listen for a click. The terminals would be connected to the dark blue wire on the single connector and the dark blue wire with orange stripe on the three terminal connector. When it clicks the there should be continuity between the remaining two terminals.
