hi from downunder..... ,,

I am new to this site, and am looking to purchase one these groovy cruisers.... its being sold at auction with a jammed in gear (manual transmission) im assuming its gear cables or bushes

.. its vin number is 1C8F4N8B85T539178. is a 2.4 liter

has travelled around 112000kms (70000 miles ish)

can anyone give a possible indication as to most likely possible faults please or had experience with this problem ??

there is some distance between me and the vehicle so I am unable to get much more info at this stage ..

Well, welcome to the forum. Yes, there is a bushing to the shifter cable that could be messed up, clutch slave cylinder or clutch slave itself could also be causing the problem, as in leaking, low on fluid, and just not functioning. There is always the possibility something has happened within the transaxle, just hard to say unless examining it in person. Either way, as long as fluid isn't gushing out of the transaxle, anything can be fixed or replaced reasonably.

The shift levers are on top of the transaxles and a careful upwards pry will release the shift cable ends from the stubs.
You can then determine if the jam is with the external shift linkage or inside the New Venture Gear T-350 transaxle.
A dragging clutch disc from insufficient clutch hydraulic pressure or mechanical failure will also make for hard shifting.
It could be an internal synchronizer/fork or geartrain issue. These transaxles are serviceable with the proper manual, skills and some special tools. Hard parts like geartrain components or case halves could get expensive. If it has been run low on fluid, that could precede an internal mechanical failure (worst case scenario).

thanks guys , that sounds relatively positive,, one further note ..

the auction blurb goes like this::

"" Manual gearbox has blown. Must start vehicle with clutch as gearbox is stuck in gear Vehicle starts and runs. Vehicle CANNOT be driven onto a transporter.::

pictures from inside the vehicle suggest the shifter is either stuck in 3rd or 5th which may suggest the cannot drive on to transporter part .. yet can be started by clutch suggesting it can be driven to a point ..

????

Thanks again
