Chryslers last stand

10810 Views 218 Replies 37 Participants Last post by  1116Arthur
The coming few years will tell us if Chrysler will still be around.
The replacment of the 300 has to be a winner.
Its time to make the decision. Chryler will be the People mover and have cars to compete with toyota.
They have to have more then 2 models, they need a small suv and a midsize suv.

Letting the Chrysler name and brand die would be shameful. Long live Wally P.
While I agree that leaving the Chrysler name die, it's more of a sin to just purposely starve it of products so the greedy execs can take home more bonus money. Or so they can manipulate the company for a merger. IMHO of course. Remember, Chrysler Corp. killed off one of W.P.s original creations, the DeSoto. So things happen.

First off you have to have creative minds at the top. They have none. IMHO they are shadetree mechanics with a budget, hence stuffing Hellcats in everything. That's all they can do. There is no vision forward. Tim K with an electric? That's so funny.

We aren't going to & shouldn't try to compete against Toyota. Their ballpark is not our ballpark. After 18 years of a successful 300, maybe it's time for another benchmark?
Chrysler's past home runs have been done by vehicles that no one else had at the time. The turbine evaluation car, the minivan, the PT, the Hemi, the re-introduction of the convertible, etc.

The Airflow II is a worthy concept car. A little nostalgia, a lot of technology, prudent utility & common sense.

We got 10 years to prove that we belong in the Stellantis portfolio. We have a lot of brands under one roof. Some may go away.
Chrysler has had its share of ups & downs, it would be a shame if it got cancelled for lack of interest. Not everything can or should be a Jeep or a Ram. I still enjoy a sensible 'luxury/prestige/comfort' sedan as a daily driver.
So, when does the 10 years start? In 2025? Or was it a year or so ago? The reason I ask is, by the time the Airflow or whatever it'll be called is launched, they will be almost half way through their allocated time if it was 2022. It'll take them at least three years after that to launch another vehicle.10 years doesn't seem like enough time for Auburn Hills.

This much is obvious, judging by timing throughout Chrysler’s history regardless of ownership.
The day they drop Chrysler and Dodge will mark the point where the auto market returns with a vengeance to passenger cars.
You got that right!

The Chrysler brands last hit was the 300. Almost 20 years ago. That my friends is an eternity in the car business. That's at least two or three real updates and at least one entirely new model product cycle. Tom Gale was really the last person that understood. No one since has come close.

Chrysler's last hit was the Pacifica. Minivans sell well due to lack of competition. However it was no where near the fleet sales of Dodge Caravans. Not sure where that market went.
The Pacifica wasn't, isn't the hit they'd hoped for. They killed the original minivan the Caravan in favor of this. Honestly, they haven't had a good looking van since the Gale era. The last GC in 2008 was nowhere near as good looking as the one it replaced. Why? Because of the influence of that damn maxxcab look that seemed to spread over the whole Corporation until the 09 Ram. The first ugly thing to get that look was the new in 05 Dakota. God that was ugly inside and out.

It's an addition, not a replacement
It may be an addition, but until the replacement for the Charger comes, it'll be a replacement after this year.

Chrysler, the brand finds itself having to reinvent once again. So, what does that look like? If I were them, I'd stay in the sedan business with an all new 300. Why? Because the CUV is an appliance now and Chrysler can't compete there to truly give the market a reason to buy it. The available appliances are pretty darn good already. They could do one, but it won't sell like they want it to without major discounting. They are as good as anyone on how to build a rwd sedan. That's where I'd start, but they will not. So, I don't see much hope for the brand going forward.

I wondered how long it would take for this post to show up.
I'm sorry, he may have saved Chrysler. But his later decisions, including canning the Dakota, have really hurt this company's ability to compete short term in several vehicle classes.

Branding will be as important as the vehicle they create. I don't envy the lady in charge of it.

Younger people like the 2008 gen Sebrings, especially the convertible View attachment 93826

Why? IMHO they were a step down from the models they replaced.

I think Chrysler should be weird, but attractive weird- like quirky, but get their reliability under control.
In other words like Citroën?

My father bought a new Imperial in 83 and 92. He took a bath on both. The loss of value was astronomical. Didn't have issues with either one.
Bruce Wayne, Britt Reid & Mr. & Mrs. Eisenhower drove Imperial.
They were ranked pretty much last in resale value year after year, but that didn't matter at all once you had one...my good man.

He was a big fan of them. Years ago at a WPC meet in Detroit, they showed some film of his tests of those cars. Good viewing.
You ain't seen nothing yet.....your vehicle will be a subscription service.
They're starting out slow, then before one knows it, everything will cost to listen, view, or keep your [I should have my mouth washed out with soap for using such terms] warm.
It’s beyond politics
It’s simple common sense
Which appears to still exist at FoMoCo
They have not abandoned the V8 gas powered Mustang thereby not alienating their customers as Stellantis has.
As much as it pains me, I agree. It isn't government that made them do it. It's their incompetent management. Whether Europe or Auburn Hills.

What I wish Tavares would do I hire an individual with a great background in NA automobile companies. Give him or her the funds needed to run the company here. They report to the board, but do what needs done here to sustain their business here.
