I am attempting to help a relative with a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus with 2.5 liter V6 and 4 speed automatic transaxle. Odometer reading is 236,000 miles. Car has started experiencing severe misfire to the extent that the check engine lamp flashes repeatedly when running. Engine while running is exhibiting blue smoke which seems indicative of excessive oil burning in the combustion chambers.
I am going to perform a compression check on each cylinder to see if there are variations in pressure and which might indicate ring and/or valves problems. Also I am going to check and replace spark plugs and ignition wires to see if the severe misfire can be eliminated.
Is the 2.5 liter Mitsubishi designed V6 susceptible to the oil seals popping off the valve stems? This was a problem on the Mitsubishi 3.0 liter V6 Chrysler used from 1987 through year 2000? Are there any other problem areas I should inspect that are peculiar to this Mistsubishi family of V6 engines?
