Mike Manley has officially launched the American version of the Jeep Compass in Los Angeles, and along the way clarified some questions about the new crossover.

First, it does appear to be a 2017 Jeep Compass, somewhat confusing given that there was already a 2017 Jeep Compass — the original, older model.

The 180 horsepower four-cylinder will deliver 30 mpg in the FWD model. The nine-speed is offered on all AWD models; the six speed manual is available on “most” models, and the six-speed automatic is for FWD only.

The Koni frequency-sensitive struts are unique to the segment, according to the Jeep chief. Both all wheel drive systems can send 100% of torque to a single wheel.
