The sole Chrysler brand concept out of a carline with just three vehicles, the 200S Mopar looks production-ready. As Patrick Rall wrote:

Pay attention to this Chrysler 200S Mopar edition, as the company actually plans to sell this package in the near future. Having started with the basic 200S, the Mopar division added a front splitter, side sills, a unique rear fascia, quad exhaust tips, "Phantom Black Tri-Coat" paint, and unique 19 inch bronze wheels for a look unlike any other current 200 model.

The 200S Mopar also gets a coil over suspension setup that improves handling and lowers the car a touch, a big brake package, a cold air intake and a catback exhaust system - all of which will help improve the performance of this powerful midsized sedan.

"A version" of the 200S Mopar will be sold in the near future. It may not have every feature that we see on this SEMA show car, but I would expect to see all of the aesthetic features and at least the more minor performance features such as the intake, the exhaust and maybe even the suspension kit.

Fiat Abarth Scorpion

I love the Fiat 500 Abarth and this new "Scorpion" package that is headed to SEMA, chock full of goodies that can only make it more fun to drive. In addition to the unique paint scheme and design package, this custom Abarth 500 wears forged lightweight wheels wrapped in high performance rubber and a new cat back exhaust system that they say adds more sound. The Abarth already has one of the best sounding factory exhaust setups that you can get on a 4-cylinder car in America, so this new Mopar system must sound incredible.

Fine leather is a must on any custom Italian car, so the 500 Abarth wears unique Katzkin seat covers with the Scorpion logo on the passenger seat - an interior design which the company expects to offer soon through Mopar.

Fiat's notes: The exterior color pattern follows the two-tone theme of the Fiat 500L Custom. A red-painted upper portion and white-trimmed lower half work together to accentuate the Abarth Scorpion logo, which is enlarged and appears as if it's crawling up the front fascia and hood.

Carbon mirror caps and accent-color fog lamp pockets are also part of the front exterior design package. Heading to the rear, a satin black rear valance houses the exhaust tips, and the rear tail lamps are modified with a smoky tint. The Fiat badges are accented in chrome trim with a satin finish. Inside, the same two-tone color split is present, with the Scorpion logo enlarged on the passenger side.

Fiat 500L Custom

[Editor's note: I drove a standard 500L around the Chelsea road course, and was surprised to see it fly through corners more easily than the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.]

This roomy Fiat 500L has been painted a unique two tone scheme with a white stripe while prototype wheels, a lower package and a prototype front spoiler add a more aggressive feel than what you get with the "normal" 500L. The Mopar catback exhaust adds style and sound, while the Katzkin leather interior that is coded to match the unique two tone exterior provides the type of high end comfort that you would expect from a fine Italian automobile.

Concept cars are often made so a car's feel can be evaluated, problems can be foreseen, and reactions of the public can be judged. Some concepts test specific ideas, colors, controls, or materials - either subtle or out of proportion, to hide what's being tested. Some are created to help designers think "out of the box." The Challenger, Prowler, PT Cruiser, and Viper were all tested as production-based concepts dressed up to hide the production intent.
