(MOORESVILLE, N.C. - February 7, 2013) - As the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards prepares for its 50th annual Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real at Daytona Int'l Speedway, Cherry Hill, New Jersey driver Tom Hessert is approaching a milestone of his own in the ARCA ranks.
Back with Cunningham Motorsports in 2013, and with sponsorship from Barbera's Autoland for Daytona, the ARCA season opener will mark Hessert's 99th series start, ever so close to his 100th career ARCA start.
During his ARCA tenure, Hessert finished a career-best third in championship standings in 2010, the last time he raced with Cunningham Motorsports. Overall, he has two wins, 25 top-five finishes and 49 top-10s.
"After a great test at Talladega last week, I am really looking forward to heading back to Daytona in the Cunningham No. 77," Hessert said.
"This ARCA race will be the 50th at Daytona and the 99th start of my career. With that being said, it would be incredible to start our season off with a win in such a historic race. Paul (Andrews/crew chief) and everyone at the shop have been working really hard to bring the best possible race car to the track, and I feel like this is the best shot I've had at a Daytona win.
"After two great seasons with Ken Schrader Racing, I'm happy to be back with Paul, Kerry (Scherer/owner) and Briggs (Cunningham/owner). Paul's got so much experience at the highest levels of our sport, so this is really a neat opportunity for me to work with the best. I'm back with people who I'm familiar with. We all know each other well, so we can start the season out on comfortable ground. Everyone at Cunningham is working very hard for the whole team, and I really feel this is as good of a shot as ever at winning at Daytona."
After Hessert's recent test at Talladega, crew chief Andrews was anxious to make the changes that he found during the test.
"We definitely made some improvement in our Dodge between the Daytona and Talladega tests, which led to a strong test last week," Andrews said. "We are really excited about our chances at Daytona, with the changes we are making at the shop this week."
