My Daytona is finally getting the heater core replaced today due to leak. The shop gave me a car to borrow for today and maybe tomorrow if they don't get my Daytona done since I have nothing to drive. The old Tahoe we have is out of commission because the dork that put on a spare tire on the front of the old Tahoe evidently either didn't a) put the lug nuts on tight enough b) stripped threads and the front tire flew off as I was driving the tahoe over the weekend. Luckily I was on a back country road when the tire flew off which creamed someone's mailbox (thank God it did not hit anyone else) and luckily no one was coming as I ended up in the oncoming lane.

As to the car I get to drive today - totally awesome!! Here is a picture, Yay!! (hope photo shows up okay)

Well, the rotor had groves on it to begin with. We are going to go ahead and replace the rotor and ball joint and arm as these parts were not meant to be used as a wheel (with all that weight on it as you said). I was going about 35 mph on a back country road when that tire flew off (white tahoe in picture next to monte carlo). This tahoe my husband bought at an auction in October to replace our 2005 that we lost thanks to chapter 7 (God I miss my 05 Tahoe nothing was wrong with it!!!). We are going to eventually upgrade from this 1999 Tahoe (need a vehicle like this as it is a family vehicle that I can I pull a horse trailer with).

Yeah, I don't recommend trying to drive without a front tire. You just can't steer!

Yes the loaner car is a Chevy (hahahaha). Just to let you know (I am sure you do) it is a 1999 Dale Earnhardt edition Monte Carlo SS. It turns heads, that's for sure. I have to tell people, no, I did not get a new car, it is not mine. I think they made these for so many years, and only made like a certain amount of them each year.

I like Dodge and Chevy. Don't ask me about Fords, not too fond of those (too many recalls on those lol). Only ford I was partial to was one I drove when I was in high school in the 80's was a red 1972 Grand Torino sport orange reflective stripe down the side with a 351 cleveland in it. OMG that thing was extremely fast, and when you floored it, it would plaster you to the seat (you know, the dollar on the dash board trick passenger trying to get it but can't due to force of gravity LOL). Now that was a muscle car, and would have left this Monte Carlo SS in the dust.

Now, if I ever win the lottery, I still would keep my Daytona. I would sink some money into it, recondition it, and add some effects to it (like the shelbys). IMO Chrysler made a stupid decision by discontinuing the Daytona as they were sporty and also economical (pretty good gas mileage).

Daytona Dude said:
I owned a '72 Gran Torino with a 351 Cleveland! My first car, I bought it for $1,000.00 in '76. Green on green. I put keystone mags with 60 series tires all the way around. I could really light 'em up! Rusted out completely by '78.
Keystone mags, cool. The red 72 gran torino sport we had never had a speck of rust on it. But, again, it was extremely fast.

My grandparents had a light green 4 door gran torino (not the sport kind). Same engine. Boy that thing could move however grand dad never tested it out, lol. I remember after grand dad died in 1986, I used to drive grand ma around in it. One day when I was coming back after dropping her off at my aunt's, some guy in a corvette kept waving me to race. I refused. No way was I going to race grandma's car!! LOL

As to chrysler discontinuing the daytona, if chrysler would have had their act together, they should have went back to the more popular more reliable models like my 88 daytona. Shame shame shame. Even though my car is 25 years old, it still turns heads :)
