On July 1 st , Vin Diesel posted an Instagram video from the set of the 9 th Fast and Furious movie, which is set to debut on May 22, 2020 and is currently being called “Fast 9”. In that video, Vin pans around the set behind him a bit and in the distance is a black Dodge Charger that many people on social media believe is a Redeye version of the SRT Hellcat sedan.

Frankly, I am a bit skeptical that after essentially leaking the Demon a few years back, Vin Diesel would make a similar mistake by showing off a not-yet-released car – again. The footage is a bit grainy and it is hard to make out all of the details on the entirely-black sedan, but we can clearly see that this Charger has a Demon-like hood scoop as well as the front fascia styling of the 2019 SRT models.

However, while the Demon-like hood would make sense on a Redeye Hellcat Charger with greater air intake needs, the car pictured does not appear to have the 2020 front fascia with the “mail slot” jutting up into the upper grille. It also appears to have the 2019 nostrils in the grille, so I believe that this car has the basic widebody design of the recently released production models, but with the 2019 front fascia being tweaked to work with the flared fenders, I don’t think that this is an early look at an upcoming production model – I think that it is a car that has been cobbled together for the movie.

Some of the folks sharing this video online, stating that this is a Redeye Charger believe that the 797-horsepower Hellcat sedan will have a different style of widebody with the current front end, but I wouldn’t bet on that. The odds of the designers creating a new front fascia for the 2020 widebody package, only to revert back to the 2019 design for a future model year is highly unlikely.

Honestly, I think that this is current Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat with an aftermarket hood and body kit designed to look like the new widebody package, but with it being such a popular topic in the social media world, we are curious what you think. Did Vin Diesel just reveal the Redeye Charger or is this just a dolled-up production car built just for the movie?
