Yesterday,  specialty tool supplier Thexton told Allpar that they are selling a tool for technicians and home mechanics to easily align and install wheels on the stud-less hubs of a Dodge Dart or Chrysler 200.

2015 Chrysler 200 brake and suspension assembly

The Dart and 200 have lug bolts to mount the wheel to the hub and brake rotor assembly, instead of traditional wheel studs with lug nuts. To install the wheel, one must place the wheel on the narrow lip of the hub and then rotate the wheel to clock the holes; it is difficult to look into the holes of the wheel to line up the hole in the hub.

This is the problem solved by Thexton’s wheel stud pilot pins:  the pins, with an M12 X 1.25 thread, thread into two of the holes on the hub. The wheel then slides on to the pins, positioning it for hand installation of lug bolts; when the time comes to replace the studs with the last two pins, knurled ends provide grip.

Thexton THX503 wheel stud pilot pins are made of high-grade steel, covered in zinc to prevent rust and increase visibility. The price for two pins, which will be widely available soon and are already ready for order from some outlets, is under $35.
