Pete Shepherd III, driving the #7 Dodge Challenger, won the EMCO 200 at the Delaware (Ontario) Speedway. It was Shepherd’s first victory at the Ontario oval and the fourth (of 17 starts) of his career. The Brampton native took the lead on Lap 150 and held on through three restarts to take the checkered flag. He said, “The car was awesome. We knew if we could stay out of trouble early on that we could race for the win at the end.”
Seven of the top ten finishers were Dodge drivers. The next best Dodge was the #17 Charger driven by D.J. Kennington, whose fourth-place win pushed him into the top spot in the points race. Kennington ran with a Dodge engine, rather than the series-spec engine, as did Larry Jackson and Joey McColm in the #56 and #28 Dodges.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series returns on June 22 for the Clarington 200 in Bowmanville, Ont.
