I've had to change the driver side half axle on my 2004 Pacifica due to a torn CV boot. I have the brake stuff all removed and moved on to the task of removing the axle itself. Only one problem. I can't get a pry bar behind the tripod joint. The tripod joint looks like it is inside the collar that is on the transaxle face and I cannot get anything behind the tripod joint because of this collar. Any suggestions for a workaround for getting the axle out?

Thanks

You won't be able to get behind drivers side joint. It sits in a 'pocket'.
I have gotten the inner joint disengaged from the transaxle by a quick, sharp 'rap' with a curved prybar and hammer.
You should see a small 'ledge' on the inner joint tripod housing just inboard of the boot clamp. Get a good 'bite' on the ledge with the prybar and the rap should pop it loose. Angle the prybar as much as you can to hit the joint outboard in one sharp blow.
Use an all steel prybar as hitting a plastic-handled prybar will deaden the sharp 'rap' needed to disengage the axle retainer circlip.
