changed out water pump but forgot to disconnect battery now van is acting like the battery is dead even though charger says it is charged

Welcome to Allpar. The problem may not be related to the water pump change, but a coincidence.
Make sure that battery posts and terminals are clean and tight and not just on the outside view.
It sounds like a poor connection somewhere up front. Are the headlamps bright?

Check the maxifuses.

The large-capacity fuses underhood. 40A, 60A ratings. If the 60A blows, no power from the alternator, possibly kills the engine.

If you had to swing the alternator aside to do the water pump, and didn't disconnect the battery, you may have shorted the output terminal to ground and blown a fuse.

Fuses may be in a power distribution box that looks like this when the lid is removed:
