Back in the day I had a slot track - I was about 10-11 years old. One of the cars was a Superbird. Oh, those were the days! That Charger like to spin out though.

 

I had the Atlas & Aurora Thunderjet 500 HO cars combined with an HO train layout. Covered 2 ping pong tables in my parents basement. Circa 1969-1970. Then got into bigger slot cars (1/24th scale) and raced them at Elmsford Raceway. They had several tracks named after famous race drivers. A great place!

 

Pete Hagenbuch, head of engine tuning in the 1960s, was known as a demon slot car racer in the 1950s (I think) - he pioneered rewinding the motors.

I spent lot of time (and paper route money) here 1969-1971. Great times! The guy who owned it, Lou Del Rosario was a really nice guy…and yes we had rewound armatures!
