Ford Halts Mustang Production Due to Sales Dive

Is this normal? The shutdown, according to Bloomberg, started on October 10th with production set to resume on October 17th. Mustang sales are 32% for the month of September and down 9% for the year. Camaro sold more then the Mustang last month for the first time in two years, and Camaro sales are down 12%.

It seems to be a pattern that Mustang sales fall off after June according to the numbers at goodcarbadcar.net (numbers from 2010-2016).
The drop seems a little steeper this year, but appears to happen every year.

Lots of warnings about a major slowdown in the auto sector starting to gain steam.

I hope Chrysler/Dodge can survive a huge slow down and sales drop if that happens. They don't have any small cars once the 200 and Dart leave either besides the Charger and 300. Scary times could be ahead if gas prices go up due to car sales declining.

The Mustang and Camaro both offer lighter four cylinder models which can't be done with the Challenger. The Challenger is within 1mpg of those and owners report superior real world fuel economy. Dodge will have a competitive pony car. This generation sells well enough and there is a new one on the way. As far as the lack of small cars, that's another thread.

There are some really great deals/discounts to be had on new 2016 Challengers right now with careful shopping!
