🤣
If the 392 does stay..... boy am I gonna have a field day with that one!
Just saw the proof....
That's phenomenal 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
One of the really crappy things Jeep does on the Wrangler is the upcharge on every color but white! Even freaking BLACK is another $500! SOME of the Bronco's colors are extra but most are not. And IMO the coolest colors have no upcharge.......Cactus Grey and Area 51 to name my favorites. Two, Jeep, TWO Bronco colors have upcharges. Charging more for those colors is a flying middle finger to the loyal Jeep customer.

Back a ways in this thread were several discussions about live axles and recirculating ball steering gears. I had a 1958 F100, 116" wheelbase, 2wd that had a horrible death wobble on back roads. It was bad enough I would sometimes have to nearly come to a stop before it would settle down. What I found in doing some front end measurements, were, (a) leaf springs had sagged a bit by the time I owned it (b) I had replaced the original 223 six and 3 speed with a 1957 Thunderbird 312 with a 3 speed + OD. The combination had essentially put my king pins either almost vertical or maybe tilted forward. I bought a pair of 1/2 length helper springs and installed them on the back side of the front springs. In addition to raising the front of the truck about 2" it put enough positive caster in the front end that the truck drove much better.

Maybe some of the lift installations on solid axle Jeeps do not have sufficient caster in them. I have also found that there are only a few shops I will trust to align my vehicles, particularly my 1986 F350, which is the last of the king pin 2WD Ford trucks. That being said, it was last fully aligned in the spring of 1994 and still has the original king pins even now.

Spot on. Back in the day they sometimes had about 20 different colors and 5 or more interior colors. Now you maybe get 8 colors and 1 or 2 interiors. It should be way easier today to offer what they had 50 years ago yet here we are

As far as is the Bronco better well it should be given the benefit of more recent design etc. However one thing that is concerning is the longevity of the Ecoboost engines apparently the cam phasers are a trouble spot with owners of Ford trucks with the same engine needing multiple replacements. Just like a Wrangler I think quality still has a way to go to justify the price. That said the 2 door looks great close to the mid 1960s original. I think they came out in ‘66…
Engines needing multiple replacements. And Wrangler is worse then the Bronco? Yeah right.

The engines were only a few hundred with defective valves. Wrangler had the Pentastar failures over a larger number than Bronco.

If we want to be honest about the comparison.

My son in law has a 2015 F150 with the 3.5EB. He uses it to tow his 25ft boat. He lives near me in the Sac metro area and likes to boat on Lake Tahoe. The 3.5 is a freaking monster. It smokes all the wheezy NA trucks at altitude, even pulling a big load. He has about 125K hard miles on it and has done nothing other than routine maint. He has a buddy with an 19 with the 2.7EB and it almost makes the 3.5 not needed. The EB motors are not trouble prone at all. Millions have been built and sold in various displacements.

I rode in a 21 Silverado with the 2.7 4 banger and I hated to admit it but I really liked it. It smooth and quiet and pulled like a train. I would take it over the 5.3 any day, especially for towing in the mountains. Turbo engines last just as long as NA motors if they are designed well and kept maintained.

The old Mike Rowe Ford 3.5 torture test is still a fun watch.

There is nothing like building your own.

But this article could have been a comparison between a modified 1969 Charger and a 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. Both will run like hell and give you a thrill, but the one you modified has a special place in your heart.

And the XJ is an original, not a copy.
And the XJ is an original, not a copy.
XJ was from a time when they had really great engineers and management understood, protected and respected the Jeep brand. Those were the people who built Jeep into a cash cow. They knew how hard it was to transform Jeep from a CJ farm vehicle into the the XJ/KJ/WJ with massively loyal owners. The did not ignore the CJ. They transformed it as well to YJ and then TJ with iconic customer loyalty and still some of the highest resale values. Those people knew it was not a cash cow that should be milked to death, but a gem that kept getting polished and cut into a brilliant star brand.

Over TEN MILLION Pentastar engines have been built.
They have a good track record and have won numerous awards.

I like the ones that I have owned. No issues at all... Just sayin'

The Penta stars in the early Wranglers had a habit of cracking heads. This is a bit different than the Ford problem as it took at least a little while to show up wheres as the blown bronco motors were failing days after leaving the dealer. I always found the penta star problem weird as it seems to affect wranglers far more then any other vehicle in the years affected. The only two variables I can see to cause it is the Wrangler has a convoluted exhuast routing and the additional load from the wrangler weight and coefficent of drag.

I have my first ever Pentastar engine in our WL. It's a fine engine, quiet, powerful and behind the 8sp. the best engine trans combo I ever owned in any vehicle I've ever had. I simply don't get all the bitchin about it. Oh, I forgot, it doesn't make over 500hp, that's why the kids don't like it I guess.

Then an odd issue popped up again with the 3.6 affecting especially 2020 Gladiators, again a head issue it seems (cams? phasers? never did see the exact explanation) which probably came from cost cutting.
I still think it's an awesome engine.

I’ve would have preferred to have the 3.6 in my Liberty, but instead I had the boat anchor that was the 3.7. It wasn’t a bad engine, cracked cylinders notwithstanding, and I got 180k miles out of it before the vehicle itself gave out….but I have to believe that the 3.6 is much better overall.

Someone recently posted top engines of all time. The Pentastar finished like in the top five as I recall.

Pentastar is a great engine. Yes, it had problems from cheapening the manufacturing process (thanks FCA). But the engine was not designed by FCA, which is why it is so good and the blocks were used for Maserati.

Ford got a bad set of valves for the Bronco. It was limited to several thousand engines. The EcoBoost is a very reliable engine.

Yeah Penta star is a great engine. Have one in my T and C. I will say it has a bit more NVH in the van than in the Charger and GC, but powerful and reliable.
