Recently there have been entry level EV proposals that would usurp the current truck offerings in the US due to the unique nature EVs have with complying to federal regulations.
A true compact truck that federal regulations won't allow to exist as a gas engine vehicle.
It's a risk to propose such a vehicle as there is no longer a compact truck market in the US. Not many companies would risk the R&D to something that may not sell. But there is also a risk to completely lose a potentially large market because you are not first to market.
As it stands right now, the Slate pickup may be first to market and offer the first truly compact truck since 2000.
