Tesla owners are defecting to legacy brands in greater numbers for a mix of gasoline vehicles, hybrids and battery-electric models as the electric vehicle maker’s once sky-high loyalty numbers plummet compared with last year.

Oh, please. Those political protests mean very little in the scheme of things. Especially when so many Tesla haters are driving VWs.
What it really means is that Tesla “created” (really just expanded) a market niche, got nice profits, the competition responded with equal or better product, and Tesla didn’t respond quick enough (not addressing quality or taking the completion seriously enough). Leaving politics out of it, it’s not that different than the Jeep brand trajectory.

Outside of politics, Tesla is guilty of over promising, Having people pre pay on hype alone. I’ve seen plenty of vaporware over here, but there wasn’t a line of people putting down cash to reserve a chance to buy. The free loan, emission credit, status symbol advantage is gone. The halo has faded and the glow is gone. All the cracks are showing

And yet Tesla stock and marketcap is still worth more than the rest of world's auto industry combined. I.e., money's free for tesla and Musk, while it is getting ever scarcer for others....as Marchionne said: the industry does NOT earn its cost of capital, and neither does tesla by now (other than through er conjurings)
