Took my 2002 Limited Trim PT Cruiser for its annual emissions check. Mechanic reported the battery died twice. They replace it under warranty, but it was also dead when I went to pick up the car.

I traced the drain on the battery to fuse 13 "Radio". But here is the confusing part: when I pull the 10A fuse the radio still works, but the power locks don't. There is a 20A fuse (#3) labeled RKE DR LKS. Pulling that fuse doesn't seem to have any effect.

My only idea about the power door drain locks is that I replaced the power window mechanism in the passenger side door about a year ago. We wouldn't have had a dead battery because we drove the car every day until we took it to the mechanic.

Any tips on fixing the power door lock drain, or ideas on why its connected to the "radio" fuse?

Thanks

One common failure that leads to a dead battery is the multi-function switch that controls the lights. It has a habit of failing and not fully shutting off current to the fog lamps. Try pulling the cabin fuse for the fog lamps. The current is not enough to light the fog lamps but enough to eventually drain the battery.

For disabling the f/lamps (if equipped). remove fuse #8 in the dash. 15A=red fuse.

The fuse may be labelled 'Radio', but it probably powers other circuits as well.
Part of the confusion is that there are 2 fuse boxes. The underhood fuse/relay box is called the Power Distribution Center or PDC.
The side dash fusebox is called a Junction or Fuse Block.
If the circuit is discharging the battery, we want to find a battery-powered or (B+) fuse. This can also be called an IOD (ignition-off draw) fuse. There is always a few mA of current draw to keep clocks & memories/adaptives supported.
Something is staying on.

Fuse #18 in the PDC supplies IOD to the radio on a Pk/LBu wire. It then goes to Fuse #13 in the Fuse Block and exits as a Pk wire to S(plice)220.
The Siren is the export security system and doesn't apply to the NAFTA market.

The Pk wire goes all over the place & powers things that could discharge the battery. Is the rear cargo lamp or a visor vanity lamp staying on? Is the instrument cluster going to sleep after shutdown?

A quick way to find this 'short' is to install a current draw indicator. A smaller bulb )like a sidemarker lamp, will glow brighter with less current draw:

Then the next fun part is to begin unplugging things until the light goes out. Keep narrowing down the draw opportunities as you get closer to the culprit.

Those diagrams are very helpful. Where can I find more of them. I confirmed that the battery does not drain when I pull fuse 13 from Junction/fuse block.

I also confirmed that fuse 13 controls the lights, power side mirror switches, vanity lights, dome light etc.

All of these lights and the instrument cluster turn off within 30 seconds of closing the doors.

What I don't see in the diagram is where the power locks get involved with this circuit.

I'm going to put the fuse 13 back in and pull the fog light fuse [8]out ( turns out we do have them) to rule that out just in case.

The fuse 13 had a .057 Amp (milliamp?) Draw which dropped to .004 when pulled. So thats where I've been focusing.

0.57 A=570 mA. Too much. Are you able to lock & unlock the doors? Does playing with the power lock switches change draw?
It may very well be related to the power locks. If an internal 'short' in that module is drawing current, that could be the issue.
A component that draws 500 mA may be warm to the touch. Try unplugging the RKE module.

Your main public library may have useful manuals with wiring diagrams (usually not in Chilton's or Haynes).
They may also have a subscription to Alldata that you can print copies from.
The factory service manual (ebay?) is the best and will likely pay for itself.

It's been almost 2 months since we've heard anything from Rick. I don't know what the heck has happened to him. I sure hope he's okay.
