The next two years will again be quite busy for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, with Alfa Romeo pumping out a slow but steady stream of Giulia-based vehicles and the former Chrysler dealing out a new Wrangler, Wrangler-based pickup, Chrysler crossovers, new four-cylinder engines, and the 2019 Ram 1500 — a key profit generator.

It’s not surprising, therefore, that we are seeing Ram mules. Some have the body length altered, presumably for the rumored extra-long cab; others have a new bed, with what we believe to be a new split tailgate (for drawings and more on this, see our 2019 Ram 1500 page).

These photos, provided by Real Fast Fotography, show both an altered-cab Ram mule and an altered-bed Ram mule — a mule being a test vehicle assembled using whatever parts are handy. The next generation Rams will almost certainly not keep the current Limited and Rebel grilles, but will probably have three different grille types (as the current models do) to separate luxury trims from sport and basic trims.
