Grand Cherokee and Commander reliability - better stats

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So in late 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

I'd like to cover all model years from 1995 on -- just a matter of getting enough owners involved. 405 signed up so far.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for Jeeps, for free. I'll share results in this thread after each update.

We have updated results to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. Results for the Grand Cherokee, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2007: 58, about average

2005: 26, better than average

Small sample sizes in both cases. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

What's really sad, my 2010 Commander seems to be more reliable than my previous Chrysler products, it hasn't suffered any malfuctions or problems yet, other than a bad gas cap that was easily fixed on my own. It really seems to be much better engineered, higher quality and more reliable than my previous Chrysler Products I own.

Yet, I've never had any of my less reliable Chrysler products into the Dealership as much as I have for my 2010 Commander. I dare say this is likely the last Chrysler Product I ever purchase if they do NOT turn this around, even though I've never been happier with their products.

Huh? Doesn't make sense? Its the proprietary locks on the electronics, I can NOT do a single modification, add, even MOPAR Accessories, do many basic maintenance myself, I can't even get spare keys made without having to go into the dealer and pay outrageous prices for service for them to use their proprietary scan tool. I even bought a fairly expensive enhanced scan tool, I'm still locked out of most of the electronics and basic maintenance and configuration tasks.

I can afford to buy just about any Chrysler product on the lot, I just can't afford to own, operate, maintain them. What I've spent on Dealership Service so far for my 2010 Commander, and the vehicle hasn't even broken down yet.

And NO it does NOT need to be this way because of the multiple computer modules, that is a line of BS, all sorts of other industries are years ahead of the auto industry in this regard and they never needed this level of service for basic maintenance and configuration. Chrysler deliberately designs it this way to provide business to their dealerships. They would have to be to incompetent to sell a single car otherwise.

We have updated our reliability stats for the Grand Cherokee (on our redesigned site) to include owner experiences through September 30, 2011. Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011: 100, worse than average

2008: 35, better than average, very small sample size

2007: 85, about average

2006: 39, better than average, very small sample size

2006 Commander: 62, better than average, very small sample size

2005: 123, worse than average, small sample size

2004: 72, better than average, small sample size

2002: 153, worse than average, very small sample size

2000: 100, about average, very small sample size

Much of the variation from year to year is likely due to the small sample sizes for every year except the 2007 and 2011.

I'm not exactly shure how the above data is suposed to be analized.
I recently took possesion of a 2002 JGC with a 4.7HO V8, found
this page and am perplexed by all the MOPAR info.
Back to the comment-Question. Several posts have different
numbers for 2002, with varied relibility comments.
Do each "group of Data" change from post to post or
is the Data changing because there is more input...?????
Just a dried-up old boat Skipper.

For the so-called Jeep Flagship, the number of repair trips is embarrassingly high.
Build quality should be getting better, not worse. Are the long shift hours starting to fatigue the workforce?
