I am working on a 97 Dodge Ram and I am getting a real hard shift. No trouble codes are being thrown and the fluid and the transmission solenoid have been replaced. It also makes a real awful clicking sound from reverse to park.

Locate the clicking. Is it inside the transmission, or a mount, or exhaust?
The front clutch and rear band are used for reverse. There may be excessive clearance in either of these components or internal damage? Anything in the pan?
Is it a V8?: http://www.mopar4life.com/autoindex/downloads/PDFs/46re-manual.pdf

So I discovered that this truck has a high amount of torque. because of this, shifitng from reverse to park is ill advised. better to shift it from neutral to park.

I have never heard that before. Something seems to be wrong here.

Maybe the shift linkage is misadjusted, and it's not fully engaging Park.
