Today is Hellcat day at the New York Auto Show, with numerous 707-840 horsepower muscle cars and trucks on display. The Dodge Demon sits in a roped off area of its own, and was gathering more attention than the entire Maserati area combined — or for that matter, the Alfa Romeo area.

There were queues of people photographing the car, and others looking at the “run of the mill” Challengers — the R/T, the SRT Hellcat, and their Dodge brethren. Two V10 Audio sports cars failed to garner more than a passing glance from the hardened reporters, but the Demon merited a crowd — even away from the beaten path.

The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk reveal was well-attended enough to require its own auditorium, with TV news people in abundance; the reveal did not disappoint, as a pro driver in a Trackhawk on rollers simulated a quarter-mile run — first by showing off the torque reserve feature, revving the supercharged Hemi on four cylinders to get full boost, then keeping it running at high rpm through the 11.6 seconds a quarter mile takes. This is one fast Jeep.

In case you missed it, this is an all wheel drive Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 707 horsepower Hellcat engine, 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at 116 mph, and top speed of 180 mph. That's one heck of a Jeep.

The Jeep truck, in case you were wondering, is the TRX — much more on that later.
