This is way off topic so bear with me.

In 2012 during the district championship game (HS) my son drove in the tying run in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs to tie the ball game in dramatic fashion. They would go onto win in the 8th inning.

Fast forward to today. He's playing for the local American Legion baseball team. A win today secures 2nd place for the upcoming district tournament. Bottom of the ninth, down by 2 (6-4), two outs with runners on 1st and 2nd. Dylan hits the ball into the left center gap at the warning track to drive in both runners for a stand up double. So yeah, he did it again! They would go onto win 7-6 in 11 innings. Kudos to his teammate Mark who pitched a 1 hitter from the 2nd inning on to the end of the game.

Glad to hear that Dylan is still coming through in the clutch, Doug. When he gets old enough, you owe that boy a beer!

He had a few clutch hits in his 1st year at college - batted .303, 2HR's, 7 doubles, 24 RBI's and 12 runs scored in 46 games played in college. He was the starting DH at college.

His American Legion team (Post 89) has the #2 seed for upcoming tournament. Lost to the #1 seed, Post 74 (Albemarle) 14-4, in a pretty much meaningless game today. They are now off tomorrow and travel to Ashland Tuesday and Wednesday. Post 89 can't gain or lose, but these games do mean something for Ashland - seeds 4,5, & 6 are still up in the air. Courtland (Post 55) or Staunton (Post 13) may have secured the #3 seed. Post 89 will be hosting Post 320 (Spotsylvania) in the first round Friday.

Chuzz - at the rate he's going I'll owe him a case or two!

Post 89 rallied from a 7-2 deficit after 3 1/2 innings to run rule Spotsylvania Post 320 in 7 innings 17-7. Had us scared for a few innings, but Post 89 scored 2 in the 4th, 4 in the 6th and 9 in 7th to win. Dylan was 2-2 with 3 walks, a single, a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Tomorrow Post 89 hosts the winner of the Courtland (Post 55) vs Fluvanna (Post 2003). The rally was sparked by a 2 RBI double by Jordi Estes in the 4th and a Tyler Truslow single HR in the 6th.

Ha! But Spotsy was doing the butt whipping at first. KG made several errors in the 4th inning. Combined with a few well placed hits they gave up 6 runs. We were lucky their pitcher ran out of gas in the 6th.

Doesn't matter how many errors a team makes, man. What counts is the score at the end of the game! :excited:

Update:

After spotting Fluvanna Post 2003 a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, King George Post 89 went on a tear, scoring 14 unanswered runs in a 14-1 run ruled rout (7 innings). Dylan was 2-5 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Lex Estes had a 3 run HR. For Dylan, Lex, and Tyler it was their last organized game on their home field. The rest of the district tournament is at Spotsylvania HS. King George plays the winner of the Ashland Post 206 (#4 seed) vs Albemarle Post 74 (#1 seed) game.

Sounds like it upsets and motivates your sons team mates to get behind in a game, Doug. LOL

Nah, they just don't "wake up" until the middle innings sometimes........LOL! Actually only had one game during the regular season where they came from behind.

Can't do that against Albemarle - I'm assuming they defeated Ashland (can't see them losing to Ashland, but stranger things have happened). They'll run rule you if given the chance. Their lineup is tough from top to bottom. That said, if our boys bring their "A" game they can go head-to-head with them. Albemarle seldom makes mistakes - they don't beat themselves. They only lost once this year (to Fluvanna). Had we lost yesterday, we would be playing by now. As it is, today's game is at 4 pm.

Tough game. Post 89 lost to Albemarle 12-4. Dylan played catcher, didn't allow any passed balls and had a good day at the plate going 2-3 with a single, double and a walk. Post 89 was only down by 3 after 6 innings (6-3) but gradually Post 74 blew it open scoring a single run in the 7th inning and tacked on 5 more in the 8th. Post 89 had bases loaded in the 8th after scoring 1 run, but failed to score any more runs.

Post 89 will play the winner of Staunton Post 13 and Post 55 Courtland tomorrow evening. The winner of tomorrow's game advances to the championship.

They can't win them all, Doug. I'm sure those young men can put this game behind them and go out and win tomorrows game. After all, you can 't change the past, so there is no point in dwelling on it. Every day provides a new opportunity. Best of luck to Dylan and all of his team mates.

Yeah, I know they can't "win them all", but it sure would be nice........ :p . They boys have been good about taking it one game at a time. It just would have been nice to knock Albemarle into the loser's bracket, but what's done is done.

Either team we play tonight (Courtland or Staunton) will have used up most of their pitching to make it to the next game. Both had to play twice yesterday in addition to the two games Friday and Saturday. My son stayed to watch them play last night. When he left in the 7th it was Courtland winning 4-2.

The boys did a good job holding Albemarle at bay for 3 innings. In the early innings KG had runners on base each inning, but failed to score. About the time their lineup was facing our pitcher for the 2nd time, they started to get some nice hits in the gaps. Not much we could do about that. Post 89 scored 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to come within 3, but Post 74 started to pull away again in the 7th and 8th innings.

Hopefully they can get the game in. Shortly after the announcing of the lineups a severe thunderstorm hit yesterday, delaying the start by 2 hours. It's very humid here with 60-70% chance of afternoon thundershowers.

Post 89 rallied from a 1-0 deficit, plating 4 runs in the 2nd and another 4 in the 3rd. They eventually added 2 more in the 5th and the final 2 in the 8th to run rule Courtland 12-2. Dylan was 1-4 with a walk and a run scored.

Post 89 now faces Albemarle Post 74 for the district championship. They'll have to beat Post 74 twice to win it all.

The boys played their hearts out tonight but came up a bit short losing to Albemarle 8-5. Post 89 struck early scoring 2 runs in the 1st. Albemarle scored one run in the 3rd and went ahead in the 4th. King George tied in the 5th (4-4). Post 74 took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 5th, but KG tied in the 6th (5-5). In the 7th the wheels started to come off. After a walk, two hits Albemarle had the bases loaded. Post 89's pitcher could not find the strike zone and walked three runs in before the coach brought in another reliever. KG went 1-2-3 in the 8th and barely held Albemarle from scoring in the bottom of the inning. Top of the 9th KG had bases loaded with 2 outs, but could not get any runs across. Final 8-5. While KG did not win the district, they did come home with a Runner Up trophy. They finished with a 15-6 record.

Dylan had a good night going 3-4 with a walk and a run scored. He had a good run his final year of legion. Not quite sure, but I think his batting average was in the .350 area with one HR and several doubles. I firmly believe playing American Legion baseball helped prepare him for college level ball. He did very well as a college freshman last year (starting DH, .303 avg, 2 HR's, 7 doubles, 17 runs and 24 RBI's).

So now it's on to college fall ball and then spring.
