Hope for the Jeep Wagoneer?

Autoblog has a story just out about how a Jeep team visited Wagonmaster and asked them what a new Wagoneer *has* to have, and even showed them some initial concept sketches.

I just read this article! I'm pretty darn excited. However, as far as the platform goes, I thought they were already thinking of utilizing a stretched version of the Grand Cherokee's. If I remember correctly, back when Sergio surprised everyone by saying the Grand Wagoneer may return, he said it would use the Durango's platform, which is already a stretched version of Grand Cherokee's.

Is there going to be a Grand Cherokee platform, a Durango platform, AND a Grand Wagoneer platform? Perhaps the Durango is staying and Jeep wants to make sure they are different enough.

Regardless, I'm slightly confused.
I saw that as well, hopefully the long term prospects for a Wagoneer look good.
Correct me if I am wrong but the platform would be the same as the GC & Durango as platform refers to the general vehicle packaging & dimensions... The actual chassis would/could be different but the platform is the same.

I think you are confusing platform and architecture. The Durango, Grand cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, and Maserati whatever are all on the same platform but slightly different architecture.

Thank you for the clarification. That's probably been explained many times. My apologies!

No need to apologize for a thing man its alot to take in it took a bit for me to learn the differences too!
One option would be to try to drop the Dodge a bit in price and appointments and have Wagoneer starting at or above Summit. Making a unique nameplate and look for something that starts at, say, $50,000, would probably help sales of the higher end vehicle.

You may be right but one question I have is a capacity issue. If Sergio is right and they lost 60K to70K in Grand Cherokee sales last year due to supplier issues then it seems strange that they would add a potential further road block to the pipeline. Im curious as to how they can eliminate the constraints all while adding another model.

hmm.. maybe. xD

Durango, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Wagoneer are all on the SAME DANG PLATFORM. The ARCHITECTURE is what is made differently.
DANG platform? I thought they were on the WK platform :dunno:

Much like the integration of AMC/Jeep platform codes and Chrysler platform codes, with Chrysler moving from a 1 digit to a 2digit letter code once AMC/Jeep was rolled into it, with the advent of merging Fiat codes and Chryslers, Fiat seems to like 4 digits. SCSS, SUSW, CUSW etc. So henceforth, Chrysler codes will now be four digits as well. WK becomes DANG. (which acutally stands for: Durango And New Grandcherokee)

Dang that was funny....
Correct me if I'm wrong, Bob, but don't I remember you saying that the first letter of a program is the "platform"?

In this case "W"?

...and the 2nd letter is the "Architecture"?

So,

W Platform K = Grand Cherokee.
W Platform D = Durango
W Platform S = Grand Wagoneer
W Platform C = "Aspen", which was canceled.

So, yes they all ride on the "W" platform.

4th was trim, last two were 2 digit designators for body style.

Can't remember 3rd... drive system?

Regardless of the agitation I guess I caused, it's really nice to see Jeep striving to work closely with huge enthusiasts like this. I'm sure they'll be getting lots of valuable information and tidbits from the company and its customers. It makes me all the more excited to see how this turns out.
I would've loved to see those sketches man.. see what direction they were goin.

ok, enough guys, we get it about the stupid platform.. jeebus. O.O
Yes, let's move on to something more important: WOODGRAIN? No one has brought it up yet? I love the solution in your rendering to have an insert area (the light grey) that could potentially be woodgrain on one trim level, or paint/decal for a complimentary color to the body color, or even potentially another cool material, like a brushed stainless steel look. That would be awesome!

I'm sure one thing Wagonmaster told them is that the top of the line model MUST have woodgrain … and now that Chrysler has access to all those nice high end materials from Ferrari/Maserati (wood finishes in some of the 300s)… could be VERY interesting …
