My PT reached this milestone yesterday :)



In January '20 it will turn 14 years old, and I enjoy driving it as much today as when I first bought it :cool:



Several years ago I got a free license plate frame from Chrysler, when they had their High Mile Club. :)
I was hoping to get a 200,000 mile frame when my PT reached that milestone, but sadly, the club no longer exists :(



My PT has never been in an accident, and if I have to occasionally put a little $ into it, it's still better than a new car payment ;)

I sent my last 100,000 mile frame to a PT buddy out in New Mexico. He used to live in NY. His 07 had about 120,000 miles on it at the time. I'll have to ask him how many it has now.

Mine is only 14,888 miles. PT Cruiser Touring Turbo Convertible. I am second owner and I have only been with her for 2 months, so far so good, I love it. I'm just checking the rubber parts like engine points, etc. that eventually get damaged.

446500 miles on my 04 PT. Have my Chrysler 400,000 mile club license plate frame on there now. My wife's 07 PT has only 94,000. The odometer photo is a little older.

^^^^ That's STILL a 13 year old vehicle. I'd be wary of the timing belt if it were mine, but some folks have a LOT more luck than I do.

Thanks for the recommendation. Little by little I will verify everything. But so far they do not have any noise in the engine, nor liqueos, nor heats up, that engine feels very smooth.

It's still a 13 year old timing belt. I don't recall exactly, but I THINK Chrysler recommended a timing belt change every 100,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first. Imperial Crown may know.

Timing belt maintenance was 102k miles or 102 months (I'm not sure they always listed the time interval).

Since you have a low mileage PT, the timing belt change interval based on time is 10 years, so your PT in on borrowed time now ;)

So while a low mileage vehicle may be nice, it kind of can have its own problems or issues in that things don't get enough use, rubber degrades over time, seals dry out, so it's actually better to drive it rather than let it sit.

When you do get ready to do the timing belt job, since the area will be torn up, consider replacing: timing belt, belt tensioner, water pump, (2) cam seals, crank seal, center motor mount with new bolt.

1 Owner '03 GT (electric blue) with 60,500 miles here. It's the wife's runaround/grocery getter and has some dents/dings.

Issues have been:
ECM failure @~300 miles. Obviously, just a faulty unit. (5 star chrysler dealer was awesome).
Plug wire failure @~10k miles (chipmunks or just factory junk, IDK). Easy fix with magnacore wires and platinum plugs).
P0551 (PS pressure switch failure) at ~30k. It also came up again at ~60k, to then simply disappear. I know this is fairly common, no big deal.
Battery failure @~45k miles (13 years BTW). The interstate guy couldn't believe it (mopar date code right here bud).
Rim failures at ~50k miles. I believe some gorrila at a tire shop bent the beads (yes multiple), but no proof. I let the wife pick new rims (they are tasteful).

Mods have been:
Heated mirrors from a later model (plug in).
A KYB strut/spring mix to lower and stance it (I was told was a track only test set they decided not to release).

Still has all original belts (ACC and timing). The ACC belts are still like new, but will get changed with the timing belt after the holidays.

P.S. I have a Stage 1 kit (Injectors and VIN-matched ECM), I'm going to install once I can convince my wife to let me touch the "best car she has ever owned".

what happens if the timing belt breaks?
You call a tow truck and in most cases there is no damage on the PT's 2.4 motor. The valves won't hit the pistons, though in rare cases the valves hit each other.
If it's an export model with the 2.0 engine, the vales will hit the piston and there will be damage to repair.

Top
