Living in New England and having a 4wd SUV I usually store my 2001 PT Ltd outside next to my garage with a custom cover over it for the entire winter. I've done this each winter for the past 12 years. This year when I broke it out of storage I discovered that some critters had used it for a winter resort for their family I presume.
While there appears to be no damage, there is a distinct pet-like odor on the interior. I've cleaned the interior throughly, power washed the engine compartment, vents, wheel wells, undercarriage and aired it out for weeks. However, the odor is still there although weaker.
So, while this is NOT a mechanical issue, I'm hoping some Daniel Boone type PT owners might have some ideas as to what could be done to eliminate this unpleasant odor. And additionally, ideas as to what I might be able to do this winter when storing it to keep the critters from returning to the resort?
BTW - I just had my broken timing belt and components repaired this week to the tune of $1600 (OUCH)! But I love this car as well as driving it (5sp Ltd with 95K miles, air raid cold air, Borla SS duals and low profile tires). I'm planning on at least another 12 years and 100K+ miles.
Thanks
