I am wondering if someone can decode this for me please. A very big Thankyou.
馃檪

The previous owner has passed away and his son know nothing about the vehicle.
I have tried to contact an earlier owner without success.
I purchased it as a 1946 DeSoto Custom Coupe???
I live in Australia.
There are rumours it came out of South Africa??? So it is an export model.
It is a right hand drive DeSoto.
She was repainted and trimmed many years ago.

Engine number C38-205242.
VIN/Chassis Number 5956682
I have figured out that Model 11 means S11. Body 22 is Coupe?
Paint (227) code I have found some information but nothing on the Trim (917) Code.
What is RD - 3?
What does Spec Fo. No. - 4723, Sched. 708 and Item No. 3099 mean?
Where can I get more info on body numbers?

Welcome to the forum :D

I can't help with the info you're seeking, but that ride is a beauty, and a very cool pic, especially against the cloudy Australian sky. It looks like it's been very well maintained and I hope you get to enjoy it for many years to come

Thank you it is a beautiful car. The previous owner was fastidious. We will be enjoying her for sure.

I sure wish I could help you, but I don't have a clue how to decode that. All I can do is stare at the photo and wish that gorgeous car was mine!

The Australian Chrysler importer, Chrysler Dodge Distributors (Australia) Pty Ltd., imported the chassis with engine, etc., and had the bodies built by T.J. Richards Pty. Ltd., Adelaide, South Australia. Chrysler purchased Chrysler Dodge Distributors and T.J. Richards in 1951, combining the two into Chrysler Australia Limited.

The only sure way to tell a 1946 from 1947 from 1948 (and from 1949 in the U.S.) is by the serial number. Export Plymouths and their cousins were built in Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario. The DeSoto Diplomat were built with Plymouth serial numbers and modified model numbers (they put an "S" in front of the Plymouth number).
