Infiniti sales have been in decline for the past five years, losing customers mainly to Lexus and Acura.
Craig Keeys, group vice president for Infiniti Americas, says Infiniti grew "its conquest share 5 percentage points in the past year. He expects to add another 5 percentage points this year."
I have news for Keeys: if your sales shrink enough, your share of conquests will grow automatically as your customer retention vanishes.
"Rising sticker prices fueled by escalating raw material and logistics costs have priced out some of Infiniti's existing customers, Keeys said."
I have more news for Keeys: if Infiniti has a pricing problem, then that means that either (1) the brand is too weak to support a premium pricing strategy, or (2) it is attracting the wrong customers --which goes back to (1).
Keeys is relying on four new vehicles for his "turn around." Including a completely redesigned QX80 flagship.
After everything is said and done, I don't see signs of a plan aimed at fixing Infiniti's underlying brand problems. Indeed, the fact that Infiniti sales now rely almost entirely on SUVs suggests that Infiniti problems will continue to get worse.
