Instrument cluster and dome light on my 2004 PT Cruiser Turbo not working.

I have read and tried alot of the different ideas on the forum. I connected a diagnotic machine to the car and the dome light and the instrument cluster came on while it was cycling through. Any ideas as to what my problem is? I am assuming that my instrument cluster itself is ok, because I was able to read all of the guages when they lite up. Gas guage and everything showed they were working. As soon as the machine finished cycling through everything went off again. Could this be a relay of some sort?

Thanks,

Welcome to Allpar. You plugged an OBDII code reader into the underdash diagnostic port & got this cluster/dome lamp reaction?
Which diagnostic tool is this? Did the cluster cycle through its self-test?
What is your original concern/symptoms?

The diagnotic machine is a Foxwell NT301 CAN OBDII & EOBD Code reader. It did not cycle through its self-test. When we plugged it in, he was messing with the various buttons and drop down items. I can't remember which one he hit when the dome light came on. But the light came on and I could read my gas guage and everything. Then when the diagnostic machine finished whatever he had hit, everything went back off again. Still not working. My problem is the instrument cluster and the dome light are not working.
Stupid question, I'm sure, but I'm just the guy to ask it. Have you tried rotating the dimmer control switch? It's on the headlight switch. Both work off that. Maybe that's what's wrong with it and you need a new one?
We checked fuse 13, it wasn't blown. We did rotate the dimmer switch. We even replaced the multi-function switch. Our next thing is to replace the speedometer instrument cluster.

Do you have power at the #4 cluster terminal?

I replaced the instrument cluster. Now everything is working.
