If you are one of the many Jeep lovers who has been calling for a Wrangler-based midsized pickup, it won’t be long before you can stop into your local FCA dealership to check out the new Gladiator. Earlier this week, the first Jeep pickup slated for the consumer market rolled off of the assembly line in Toledo, Ohio and as these trail rated trucks continue to come together, it won’t be long before the first batch is shipped to dealers around the United States.

Over the course of the past decade in which I have been covering the automotive industry, I don’t believe that there is a vehicle that has been more talked-about by hopeful consumers than the new Jeep pickup. Since the Cherokee-based Comanche was discontinued in the early 1990s, Jeep lovers have been demanding a new small pickup. That group grew as custom shops began transforming the JK Wrangler into great-looking pickups, leading those folks calling for a Jeep pickup to specifically seek a Wrangler pickup.

Although it took quite a few years, Jeep listed to all of those requests for a small, Wrangler-based pickup and late last year, the Gladiator was introduced to the world. Since then, the mid-sized pickup has been on display at auto shows around the country, giving prospective buyers a chance to check it out in person, but many people have been eagerly awaiting their chance to test drive a Gladiator at their local dealership. With the start of production, that wait will soon be over.

Surprisingly, retail production of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator began without any fanfare from FCA. In fact, the company didn’t even announce the start of production, but over the last two days, videos and pictures from the Toledo plant showing the first Jeep pickup to roll off of the assembly line in more than 20 years have been popping up on social media, one of which we have included below.

As you can see, the first retail Gladiator is a Rubicon model in Billet Silver and as it was driven off of the assembly line in Toledo, the team of workers who will assemble every new Jeep pickup gathered to celebrate the long-awaited arrival of the Wrangler truck.
