Automotive News wrote that the upcoming Jeep Scrambler pickup will have an optional convertible-style soft top when it reaches showrooms in early 2019 — based on Brian Williams’ spy shots.

FCA has been hinting at new roof options for both the Scrambler and the Wrangler JL, which is being  unveiled in Los Angeles next week. Now photos of both new roofs have been leaked prior to the big reveal.

It's safe to say that a big chunk of the market is likely to go nuts for both new roof options — perhaps even as nuts as they went for the first four-door Wrangler, 11 years ago. Remember when that was only supposed to capture 20% of Wrangler sales ? Some purists howled and scoffed, but Toledo couldn't build enough of them from Day One, and now four-doors are 75% of those sold.

Glossy magazines have already leaked photos of the Wrangler JL bikini-style soft top shown in New Zealand; the optional, removable rear panels look like a certain winner, depending on price and availability. The photos seem to confirm the long-standing Allpar insider hints about power top systems, which would be a first for Jeep.

The Scrambler roof, according to AutoNews, can be either lowered or entirely, creating a truly differentiating option among the raft of lookalike pickup competitors.

This won't be the first convertible pickup in the world, but it could be the most successful if interest in the Scrambler translates into sales. The Dodge Dakota Sport had an optional drop top from 1989 to 1991; as did the Chevy SSR in 2003, priced out of reach for most, and lacking in utility.
