From the article:

The Recon will sit alongside the Wrangler, confirmed Jeep’s European boss, Antonella Bruno, but the two cars will have slightly different sizes and positions in the range.

“The Recon in Europe will be a white-space car,” said Bruno. “It’s a unique car, very boxy and very capable. It will sit in a lower part of the [market] segment to the Wrangler.”

Lower part of the segment? So it is smaller/cheaper? That's kind of what I was hoping for. Like something maybe around the size of the last Liberty.

Edit: Well Car&Driver says it'll start at $60k so that's running counter to what Autocar is saying. Starting at $60k is like the mid-to-high level of the Wrangler Market.

Autocar is European based.
I think Recon might be cheaper than Wrangler in international markets, as I think Europe has a pretty restricted lineup of Wranglers to 4xe (no base Wrangler Sport). In the US, I’d bet Wrangler Sport undercuts base Recon, but both Recon and Wrangler will of course have upward trims.

Depending where they compare on size if the Recon is competitive on price with the 4xe Wrangler, I could see it being popular. I'm barely using the gas engine in the 4xe now.

In a perfect world (for me), they’d offer Recon as a PHEV in addition to BEV, which in theory could lower the base price somewhat. I won’t hold my breath on that though, this is Jeep after all, and they believe premium pricing is the only way to go….unfortunately it mostly comes without the premium customer experience.

I hope they differentiate the trim levels given this is targeting a different clientele; we know per the Jeep press release that there is a Moab version, likely top of the line

The articles all seem to conflict tho, going against the Defender in Europe would make me think premium to Wrangler, but theyre indicating this sits below? Confusing for sure unless Wrangler moves further upmarket and drops <Sahara trims

A new Jeep from Paris? They should call it the Croissant!

What next, a new Alfa Romeo from Brooklyn...?
The new E-Segment Alfa CUV may actually come from Toluca!

You forget that in 2 years, the Wrangler will be another $10k more expensive, so, at $50k, the Recon will be slotted below with comparable equipment.

The most important question: will this new Jeep still carry the American flag?

Or will Jeep slap the EU flag onto it...?

FWIW... making the Recon in PHEV format would be a major cost booster overall, and would limit the potential off-road qualities.
Optimizing for BEV only makes more sense in the long run, and that's the run this vehicel will play in. You can get a Wrangler PHEV. Why make a Recon PHEV?
Scout is aiming at Bronco and Wrangler, Recon is aiming at Land/Range Rover apparently. I would not be surprised to see Wrangler prices fall over the next few years.

I still look at the Recon and say it looks designed to slot lower than your average Wrangler. It does not look like a vehicle designed to go up against LR it looks like it's designed to go against Bronco and 4runner. I could see it reaching 60k, but I'm thinking it will start closer to the 35-40k, mark. Jeep Already had the Wagoner and GC families to play in the higher end. What jeep needs is a volume model that can sell 150k a year and 60-90k vehicle is not that.

Also this is one of the most interesting new vehicle releases I've seen in a while since there seem to be vastly different opinions on where this vehicle slots and Jeep is not really making it clear themself.

It looks like most of the pricing is people just using the 4xe price and saying that's it.

If they want to sell any here, making them all electric will make them doa.
