From the article:

The Recon will sit alongside the Wrangler, confirmed Jeep’s European boss, Antonella Bruno, but the two cars will have slightly different sizes and positions in the range.

“The Recon in Europe will be a white-space car,” said Bruno. “It’s a unique car, very boxy and very capable. It will sit in a lower part of the [market] segment to the Wrangler.”

Lower part of the segment? So it is smaller/cheaper? That's kind of what I was hoping for. Like something maybe around the size of the last Liberty.

Edit: Well Car&Driver says it'll start at $60k so that's running counter to what Autocar is saying. Starting at $60k is like the mid-to-high level of the Wrangler Market.

Autocar is European based.
I think Recon might be cheaper than Wrangler in international markets, as I think Europe has a pretty restricted lineup of Wranglers to 4xe (no base Wrangler Sport). In the US, I’d bet Wrangler Sport undercuts base Recon, but both Recon and Wrangler will of course have upward trims.
Depending where they compare on size if the Recon is competitive on price with the 4xe Wrangler, I could see it being popular. I'm barely using the gas engine in the 4xe now.

FWIW... making the Recon in PHEV format would be a major cost booster overall, and would limit the potential off-road qualities.
Optimizing for BEV only makes more sense in the long run, and that's the run this vehicel will play in. You can get a Wrangler PHEV. Why make a Recon PHEV?
Scout is aiming at Bronco and Wrangler, Recon is aiming at Land/Range Rover apparently. I would not be surprised to see Wrangler prices fall over the next few years.
I'm really starting to wonder why does the Recon need to be shaped the way it is if its only BEV? Is that a massive frunk in the front of that thing?

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my Jeep Wrangler. But I am scared to set foot at a Jeep dealership. Between the ridiculous prices, the widespread incompetence of the sales and service staffs, and the arrogant indifference from Stellantis, I look at these new vehicles Jeep keeps throwing at us and all I can do is scratch my head.
I will say if someone had bought a Wagoneer from the Jeep dealership I did and received the experience I got from my Jeep, they'd probably had gone to Land Rover and traded it in. It was on par from what I expected from the very Chrysler Jeep dealership which annoyed me back in 2009. The experience wasn't far off from that. The Honda dealership I bought from in 09 was better. My ex's 2016 Subaru dealership was waaaayyy better, and I can only assume the Land Rover, BMW and Mercedes dealers are way better than those. And it wasn't exclusive to that dealership because two other CDJ's were calling me saying they had the car I wanted in stock only for them to be missing deal breaker features like being a 4xe or missing the trailer hitch. All in an effort to try to get me in an JGC 4xe.

One big issue to your point was the app. Which my salesman had entered the wrong VIN to get me registered. When I inquired about why the car in the app didn't look like my car and called it a Sport model, I got met with they all look like that. Only to find out, it was the wrong car. It took 6 calls to both Sirius and Mopar to finally get it right and my app now shows my car and a random Hertz rental car in the app. I also noticed things that were supposed to be in the car at delivery were missing so when I got back to the dealership to pick them up I just kept getting the "Give me all 10's" request again and again. Then the app itself is super laggy. You don't know for sure when its fully charged unless you keep prompting it. It beats walking into the garage or running out to the charging station and checking, but in a world where you get charged for parking too long at a charging station, a push notification saying the car is full would be nice. I usually won't get a "completed charge" notification until I've already unplugged the car and am leaving.

$2000 cash on 2023 Wrangler 4xe already.
When I got mine the lot still had a bunch of 2022s on it. What's weird is at least for the Wrangler and the Wrangler 4xe, the dealer really didn't love the idea of dealing. In fact one of the other dealerships kept flat out telling me that spec of 4xe (with a hitch and the power top) would be impossible to find. And yea compared to the Regular Sport Wrangler, they were harder to find, but the dealer I got mine at had 3 or 4 and all the other dealers had at least 1.

I told the dealer they’d honor the affiliate prices or I’d go elsewhere. I know several dealers weren’t doing that back then. They even offered $500 better on my trade than I expected.
The only thing I found impossible to find in 4xe was a Sahara with blind spot. There were zero, I guess only the High Altitude got those parts.
You're right! The one I ended up with is the only one I saw anywhere with blind spot aside from the High Altitude. It wasn't on my list of musts, but now I'm quite enjoying having it.
