From the article:

The Recon will sit alongside the Wrangler, confirmed Jeep’s European boss, Antonella Bruno, but the two cars will have slightly different sizes and positions in the range.

“The Recon in Europe will be a white-space car,” said Bruno. “It’s a unique car, very boxy and very capable. It will sit in a lower part of the [market] segment to the Wrangler.”

In a perfect world (for me), they’d offer Recon as a PHEV in addition to BEV, which in theory could lower the base price somewhat. I won’t hold my breath on that though, this is Jeep after all, and they believe premium pricing is the only way to go….unfortunately it mostly comes without the premium customer experience.

FWIW... making the Recon in PHEV format would be a major cost booster overall, and would limit the potential off-road qualities.
Optimizing for BEV only makes more sense in the long run, and that's the run this vehicel will play in. You can get a Wrangler PHEV. Why make a Recon PHEV?
Scout is aiming at Bronco and Wrangler, Recon is aiming at Land/Range Rover apparently. I would not be surprised to see Wrangler prices fall over the next few years.
I had hoped that because they put the 4xe badge on the back of Recon that it might have a PHEV option, but I’m guessing now that 4xe is a catch-all badge for their electrified vehicles, and not just the hybrids. 🙁. I suppose that does make more sense though.

This was posted in 2019, I think. The problem was mentioned in Evan Boberg's book as appearing in the XJ and CJ. Bob Sheaves wrote, “"Death wobble" first showed up in vehicles in the 1960s with early aftermarket lift kits, primarily on Jeep CJs and Land Rover S1s. ... In a properly designed XJ suspension, the motion of the draglink (of the Haltenberger type) and the panhard rod is supposed to be a parallelogram...but in stock form, it is not, so raising the vehicle even 1 inch worsens the "fight" between the track bar (panhard rod) and the draglink, causing the tires to steer instead of the driver.” (XJ was the original Cherokee.)

He added, “The Rubicon is at the ragged edge of acceptable street and offroad suspension geometry motion. Given the GD&T variance of the production design, it could (I am not saying "will") occur, but it will not be to the amount of a 36" tire equipped vehicle.”

As far as the dates, our expert tech ImperialCrown added:

“If the steering damper (stabilizer) itself is wet with oil and the oil is not dripping on it from above, the plunger rod seal has failed and the internal damping hydraulic fluid has leaked out or is low. This will cause "death-wobble," and yes, it can take the steering wheel right out of your hands.

It doesn't necessarily take aggressive driving for it to fail. Ford, GM and Dodge trucks do it as well. Rack and pinion steering set-ups seem to do it much less than parellelogram linkage steering configurations.”

Chrysler had a TSB back in 2019. ...
Allpar has certainly benefited from the expert input of members like Bob S and Imperial Crown over the years. When Norm was still with us, he’d point out (to newbies like me) which members were experts in different areas (as in, “you can trust what they’re telling you”). It’s what sets Allpar above other sites IMO.

What everyone keeps missing in this discussion is that the "Death Wobble" (or whatever anyone wants to call it) is happening on stock JLs with under 10k miles.

That is absolutely unacceptable for a $50k vehicle.

Also, JL are being bought back, given a new stabilizer and re-sold as certified pre-owned. Customers would never know unless they reside in a state that requires disclosure of a buyback vehicle.
Yeah, the steering issues are present on new vehicles on the lot. Some have test driven multiple vehicles before finding one that felt right. And these are customers who have driven Jeeps before and know what is baseline for Wrangler steering.

I doubt I’ll be considering a Wrangler or Gladiator anytime soon, until they get that fixed…and they’ve already had years. I have a long commute, and fighting to keep the vehicle straight the entire time, over the crappy roads into Philly is not something that sounds enticing.

If a refresh is coming, I think they would wait until Easter Jeep Safari to unveil it.

I don't expect any significant change in the powertrain (except maybe all-electric) but lots of excuses for higher prices.

I expect more options in reaction to Bronco.
One of the commenters on a Bronco forum said “Bronco has been great for Jeepers”, or something like that.

If custimers are experiencing death wobble on stock Wranglers, I’m suspecting it’s either a manufacturing issue or a parts issue. Or is it a user issue? How are they using their Wrangler? Are the ones who have experienced issues using their Wranglers more aggressively than others, and therefore require more frequent monitoring and maintenance? If it’s happening on street-only vehicles, then that’s more concerning I think.

For Wranglers that have been modified, did they upgrade their suspension parts to account for the added weight and different geometry of bigger tires & wheels? From skimming through the Bronco forums, I see people breaking tie rods because they lifted their vehicle & put on bigger tires & wheels without upgrading the supporting structures to accommodate them. It’s the same with Wranglers. One poster on a forum said “you wheel until something breaks and then you upgrade” (paraphrasing). Lol.

Stock Wranglers on public roads with no off-road history and less than 10k miles on the odometer.
Then I’d say that’s definitely a problem. Either crappy parts, or a manufacturing issue, or both. And/or design flaw.

However, I am no engineer. But I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express before…..
