I believe my father was influenced by the commercials for Dodge on the Lawrence Welk show, which was a big show them, to buy the 1957 Dodge Cornet, with the 'small' V-8, two tone paint, push button automatic, the tail fins, massive trunk. He loved the handling of it with its torsion bars. I remember it well.

Bob Hope's TV show was sponsored by the Chrysler Corporation. I first learned of the 5 year/50,000 mile power train warranty from Chrysler commercials on that show.
At the end of the Welk show in at least one season, the assembled cast sang a jingle to the tune of "Good Night, Ladies." The closing line , "Hope you had a happy time," was punctuated by bass Larry Hooper saying, not singing, "DODGE had a good time, too!"

Many a time I heard him close with that saying. Groucho would open up the Desoto Plymouth logo and ask you to buy used cars too. Wiggle his stogie and close window. They used his show to introduce the 55 Desoto.

Dodge and Plymouth were indeed the original sponsors of Lawrence welk, and remained until 1960.

This was at a time when demographics and statistics were very primitive compared by today's standards. Once ChryCo. finally did a demographic and statistical analysis of the Welk show's audience, they discovered a problem (that would only grow worse over the course of time)...that the show's demographics were TOO OLD. This caused ChryCo to bow out as sponsor of Welk.

According to this short excerpt from Wikipedia, the sponsorship was taken over by other products. Notice that these products are primarily aimed at OLDER / OLD people:

In 1960, Geritol (a multivitamin) took over sponsorship; Sominex (sleep aid), Aqua Velva (aftershave), Serutan (laxative), Universal Appliances (manufacturer of home appliances), Polident (a denture cleanser), Ocean Spray (fruit juice) and Sinclair Oil (automobile fuel) were some of the other companies or brands which served as sponsors.

Claude Short Dodge, 1127 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica CA. They were in business 70+ years, their original showroom in the picture was destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Nice folks, I bought a new Ram D-250 from them in 1989. A BMW dealership is now at that location.
I'm not sure, but I think the show Mannix had Dodge as a sponsor. I seem to recall a couple of 68 or 69 Super Bees shown in the introduction of the show. Anyone else here remember Mannix? He drove a 1968 Dodge Dart GTS convertible. I loved that show because of the cars. And Gail Fisher was a good looking reason to watch too along with Kim Novak.
