As valiant67 stated. Back in the day; quite a few F's had factory 4 speeds albeit with top gear being overdrive but, the tranny hump, pedals and linkage don't know the difference. :) Where you may get in trouble is finding V8 specific parts i.e. bellhousing and clutch linkage but I suspect A/B body stuff will work.

Yeah the only real external difference is the 3/4 lever is flipped, 4th gear remains 1:1 but becomes 3rd gear due to the reversed lever then the old 3rd gear becomes OD.
Correct me if I'm wrong but; weren't the OD vehicle bellhousings different (larger hole) to accommodate a bigger front tranny bearing/seal 'retainer', the exact name of that piece escapes me at the moment.
