Missing Mopars of 2015: Rear Wheel Drive Jeep Cherokee XJ2

The Jeep Cherokee is a runaway success, the most popular Jeep in US sales for 2015 - but it angers many long-time Jeep fans and doesn't do the original justice. They've long called for a return of a traditional Cherokee, with better ground clearance than the KL, but that doesn't need to sit high off the ground. It must have long suspension travel and short overhangs.

Maybe the upcoming rear wheel drive setup being developed by FCA as a whole can make this happen. A crossover is certain, but will a "true Jeep" version arrive, or will all highly-capable Jeeps be in the Wrangler family? A closed-roof Jeep Wrangler XJ2, as illustrated above, could use the lowest Wrangler suspension. Length would be the major obstacle unless this SUV had a plant to itself, or could be built along with Rams in an overflow/specialty facility That plant would also enable the Ramcharger.
