The early stages of the 2020 Modern Street Hemi Shootout schedule have been ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many drag strips around the country were forced to close to delay the start of their 2020 racing season and unfortunately, that includes several of the tracks where the MSHS was scheduled to run over the course of the past few months. As a result, series boss Dan VanHorn has been forced to make several changes to the schedule going forward and since so many racers are itching to hit the track, here is a look at when and where you can hit the track with the Modern Street Hemi Shootout series.
The next planned event for the MSHS isn’t a full event but rather, a Test N Tune event at Rockingham on May 29 th to allow interested racers a chance to get ready for the return of the normal events. Click here for registration information on that, as there is still room for racers to sign up.
The next full series event for the MSHS is on June 20 th at Kentucky Dragway, sponsored by Barth Tuning. That is followed by the full event at Rockingham on July 11-12 sponsored by Stanley’s Performance, having been rescheduled from mid-April. For those who do not know, both Rockingham and Kentucky Dragway are currently running, so those MSHS events are all-but-certain to take place as currently planned.
After that, we get into a group of regularly scheduled events, including Hemi’Nsanity sponsored by ThiTek in Detroit on August 13-15, the Demon Performance event at Virginia Motorsports Park on September 10-12 and the Lone Star Mopar Fest in Houston on October 2-3. Following the stop in Texas, the MSHS heads to Maryland International on October 22-24 for the EastCoast Moparts event. That event was going to be held later this month, but the state of Maryland hasn’t given race tracks the go-ahead to open in May, so the series had to be reschedule in October.
Finally, the end of the season looks as though it will follow the originally planned schedule, including the HemiTuner Performance season finale on November 7 th at Atco and the HHP Final Stand at Cecil County on November 8 th .
The MSHS is still looking to fit their entire season schedule into a significantly shortened period of time, so while the races aren’t as spread out as some people might prefer, Dan VanHorn is working hard with tracks to get all of the 2020 events run at some point.
